PSL Vote to Expel Royal AM

Royal AM has officially been expelled by the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

Last November, it emerged that club president, Shauwn Mkhize, owed the South African Revenue Service approximately R40 million in tax debt. This impacted Royal AM’s operations, from suspended matches to non-payment of players’ salaries.

On Thursday, 10 April, the PSL’s board of governors (BoG) met at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, Gauteng, to discuss a recommendation from the league’s executive committee to expel Thwihli Thwahla.

After much deliberation, a majority of the BoG members voted in favour of throwing Royal AM out of the league.

With the KwaZulu-Natal-based outfit’s membership revoked, the decision will have a ripple effect on other PSL clubs.

Specifically, teams such as Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs and TS Galaxy will lose crucial points that they earned by defeating or drawing against Thwihli Thwahla. As such, this could impact their positions in the PSL standings.
